About Grand Ole Opry...
The Grand Ole Opry, Nashville, Tennessee's premier country music venue, began as a humble one-hour-long radio show. The show's popularity soared after the second world war, and country music quickly spread from its isolated rural roots to gain national appreciation.
As fans began to gather in larger and larger numbers, finding a venue to accommodate them became increasingly difficult. After moving the Grand Ole Opry performances to several different buildings, the show settled into the Ryman Auditorium, but even this grand old building couldn't hold the great numbers of fans coming to see the performances. In 1974, the Grand Ole Opry was moved from the Ryman Auditorium to the new Grand Ole Opry House. This beautiful 4,400 seat building is still in use today, and is located just nine miles outside of bustling downtown Nashville.
To honor and remember the Opry's roots, a large circular section of the Ryman Auditorium's original stage was removed and placed in the new stage at the Grand Ole Opry House. Adjacent to the Opy House is the expansive Opry Mills Mall. Also adjacent to the Opry House sits the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, which was formerly known as the Opryland Hotel. This large hotel boasts all modern amenities while still offering a taste of traditional Southern hospitality.
The Grand Ole Opry hosts year-round weekly performances from country music legends as well as the genre's bright young stars. Performances are hosted at the Ryman Auditorium during the winter season. Guided backstage tours of the Opry House are offered during the winter months, advanced booking is required. As a family-friendly venue, there's always plenty of fun things to do for both children and adults.
